Read, Read, and Read Some More

Lisa,

These are great tips for parents to also be involved and engaged. Making up and telling stories are fun too. If the kids are old enough you can also bring them in to add to the story.

Very cool,

Excellent advice.

My brother and his girlfriend produced some story CDs for my children as a gift this year, complete with introductory music! A wonderful and unique gift.

Yes, those are great ideas as well. I had a whole bunch including puppet shows to act out the story, listening to books on tape, making reading a routine, having preschoolers make their own books by drawing pictures and then dictating the story so an adult can write the words. I just like to keep my posts relatively short to make it easy on my commenting friends! I always feel myself sigh when someone has written a short novel on their blog and I need to comment. No disrespect meant to the author, it's just that my time is so limited and I think very few of us are actually interested in learning more about everybody's subject matter. Even when it is an interesting topic, it's hard to find time to read and comment.
Nothing is more important then teaching a child to read. When kids are read to and involved with books on a regular basis they actually grow up to be better and more involved readers.

You are so true

Sometimes when I'm busy I find my son "reading" his books, pointing and naming whatever is pictured there. He loves when I read to him. Hope he'll continue with reading habit.
